BANNISTER CREEK
MITIGATION BANK
The Bannister Creek Mitigation Bank is an approved commercial mitigation bank located in the Etowah River watershed. The mitigation bank was permitted in 2008 and is restoring over 9,900 linear feet of perennial stream channel. Stream restoration and bank stabilization is being conducted along Bannister and Brewton Creeks and associated tributaries to the Etowah River. The stream restoration design was coordinated around three different recently installed sewer easements by Forsyth County located along Bannister and Brewton Creeks. Design challenges included stabilization of existing sewer easement crossings and designing the restored channel to provide both short and long-term protection of the sewer easement. Primary concern was the channel migration of Brewton Creek that would have ultimately cut through the sewer easement due to the narrow floodplain width in this area. In addition to the sewer easements, several road improvements along Hwy. 369, Nicholson, and Old federal Roads were also considered during the project approach and were successfully coordinated with the channel design. Restoration tasks included project baseline studies, survey, design assistance, permitting, and construction management and oversight. The project was successfully permitted and is currently under construction.
