Brushy Creek Conservation Bank - A Wildlands Legacy Bank
(for information on current Wildlands banks, see the Bank Catalog)

The 157-acre Brushy Creek Conservation Bank protects a mixture of annual grassland, vernal pool, and seasonal wetland habitats that are utilized
by a resident population of western burrowing owls. The conservation vision for the property is to create a lasting burrowing owl habitat preserve, managed in perpetuity.

Ecological management of the site focuses on maintaining habitat for the owl, plus benefiting a variety of special-status wildlife and plant. The site’s grassland areas require management of vegetation height to provide good nesting and burrowing habitat. Wildlands emphasizes the use of managed grazing to maintain the height of grasses and other vegetation at levels that benefit burrowing owls and their prey, and to control invasive vegetation such as milk thistle, Italian thistle, and mustard.
