Allensworth Conservation Bank

The 515-acre Allensworth Conservation Bank is located in southwestern Tulare County within the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Allensworth Conceptual Area Protection Plan (CAPP), adjacent to protected Allensworth Ecological Reserve (ER), approximately 2 miles southeast of Colonel Allensworth State Historical Park (SHP), and approximately 3 miles south of the Pixley National Wildlife Refuge (NWR).

The Bank was approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) in 2008 to provide conservation credits as offsite compensation for impacts to the San Joaquin kit fox (Vulpes macrotis mutica)(SJKF). The Bank serviced permitted projects occurring in portions of Tulare, Kings, and Kern Counties. Prior to 1930, SJKF were thought to inhabit most of the San Joaquin Valley, from southern Kern County north to the city of Tracy in San Joaquin County on the west side and near the town of La Grange in Stanislaus County on the east side (USFWS Recovery Plan for Upland Species of the San Joaquin Valley, 1998). The Bank’s service area included the southern portion of the historic and current SJKF distribution within the San Joaquin Valley.
